The Incomer

On a remote Orkney isle, two siblings survive by hunting seabirds and retelling their ancestors’ stories. Their primary focus, however, is defending their home from dreaded incomers. That fragile equilibrium shatters when an awkward council worker arrives with a mandate to uproot them from their homeland. Domhnall Gleeson and Gayle Rankin anchor the narrative as the siblings face this existential threat.

The arrival forces a confrontation between ancient local customs and bureaucratic authority, turning the isle into a battleground for identity and survival. As the worker prepares to enforce his orders, the siblings must decide how far they will go to protect their way of life. The tension between the outsider’s rigid purpose and the locals’ deep-rooted resistance drives the story forward, highlighting the absurdity and tragedy of displacement.
