Synopsis
In the sterile hierarchy of academic research, personal relationships are variables to be controlled, not sources of chaos. Olive Smith, a biology PhD candidate, and Dr. Adam Carlsen, a professor infamous for his tyrannical demeanor, disrupt this order by entering a fake relationship. What begins as a calculated experiment on love quickly spirals into unexpected turbulence, disrupting the precise theories both have staked their reputations on.
Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman navigate this collision of professional rigidity and personal vulnerability, turning a strategic arrangement into a genuine test of their assumptions. The dynamic between the ambitious student and the formidable authority figure shifts from mutual exploitation to messy, unscripted reality, challenging the idea that human connection can be predicted or managed. As the boundaries between their professional lives and this fabricated intimacy blur, the carefully constructed walls of their academic existence begin to crumble, forcing them to confront the unpredictable nature of the very emotions they sought to study.
